Java Platform Installation Tips

To select and install the Java platform of your choice:

Download the platform (in my case it was Java FX).
Install the downloaded platform using all defaults.
In some cases the Java Development Kit (JDK) is required before installations can be completed. Simply retrieve the latest JDK, install it then install the Java platform of your choice.
Start up the IDE and search for updates (usually under the help primary option).
After applying updates restart the IDE and search for updates.
Continue the process until the no more updates available dialog appears.
Check once a month to see if there are any new updates available.

Proceed to use the desired tutorials for familiarization with the new development environment.
